Eggs, Balance, and CSA

Posted 1/30/2017 8:02am by Michael Scheidel.

Got eggs?

We do...lots of them.  That's why we are offering them for $4/dozen (usually $4.50!).  Our hens are fed transitional organic feed and are currently wintering in a warm greenhouse!  We will keep our refrigerator in the market room stocked. On-your-honor tin for paying and making change will be by the fridge and you can pick up any daylight hours Mon-Sat (no Sunday please!).

Why we want deep freeze!

I can't say the thought of warmer climes (perhaps a white sand beach in Panama) isn't distracting but warm winters this far north mean lots of spores/bacteria/fungi/larva will survive in greater numbers thus making the struggle to control them greater.  Being a farm that does not spray conventional/synthetic fungi/insect-cides, this makes our job more difficult.  I can't say I enjoy the deep freezes we commonly see but I know they have a great purpose.  So when we are chipping our way through the cold weather remember that the scales are being balanced naturally!

2017 CSA shares are available so check out our website for more information.  All details are under the CSA/Ordering tab.  This way of farming enables us to survive our off season and prepare for the upcoming season.  Please e-mail with any questions!

Gratefully Growing!
