Little Peace Farm News

Posted 5/19/2017 7:42pm by Michael Scheidel.

Hey Good Folks!
Love is in the air...in our home, hopefully in yours, and between newly-weds Bren and Sydnee in Virginia and Dan and Faith in Hershey (tomorrow!).  We are grateful for the witness you have all given to your love and faith.  May your love grow with the years!  Ok, enough with squishy stuff and on to the practical...

IN THE FIELDS

I have been busy mowing down rye cover crop and incorporating (plowing) it into the soil.  Some fields I will re-seed with a second cover crop and let rest for the season, others I will plant with later season crops.

Today we planted sweet and hot peppers, eggplant, and our second planting of sweet corn.  Yes, we are growing sweet corn (a variety from High Mowing Seeds called Who Gets Kissed? and one called Luscious).  For the first week of CSA you can expect to see: head lettuce, radish, kale, arugula, cucumbers, peas, and more.  The variety will grow as the season rolls along.

MARKET

Thanks to Ron and Colleen who are making our Wednesday Hershey deliveries to Woo and Troegs and tending our Thursday Hershey Market!  Truly a blessing to have the help and leave me two more days on the farm to get more work done!  Thank you to all Hershey folks who are coming out to support our farm at the market.  Looking forward to feeding you.

PASTURED CHICKEN

We have been raising pastured/organically fed chicken since 2009 and have our first batch available for pre-order.  They will be ready for pick up the week of June 19th and the cost is $4/lb.  If you have never tasted a truly pasture raised chicken now is your opportunity.  There is NO store-bought comparison.  E-mail us if you would like to reserve your bird or birds today!

CSA

Just a reminder that if you have joined our CSA for the 2017 season, the first week of pick is the week of June 1st.  This means that:

-the first Hershey Market pick up will be June 1st;

-the first Healthy Habits pick up will be Friday, June 2nd;

-the first Saturday Farm pick up will be June 3rd;

-and the first Tuesday Farm pick up will be June 6th.

Stay tuned for more farm news.

Gratefully Growing!
