Fall/Winter Markets, Cleaned Up,

Posted 11/1/2017 1:09pm by Michael Scheidel.

Hey good folks!

All Cleaned UpLast week the last of our summer crops were mowed (peppers/basil), plastic mulch and drip tape was pulled, the beds were disked and cereal rye cover crop was broadcast into the waiting ground.  A lush carpet of green oats covers the ground where we finished growing on earlier in the season.  The high tunnels are completely full with newly planted winter crops and all of our pastured chickens and woodlot raised pork are in the freezers of our customers.  One of the last chores is planting our garlic.  After that I would just about consider our farm all cleaned up and ready for winter rest.

Fall/Winter Markets

I really enjoy growing winter vegetables in our high tunnels.  On the coldest sunny days of the year temps. can reach 75-80 degrees inside them which means working in jeans and a tee shirt  Not too shabby when I sometimes have to shovel my way INTO the greenhouses wearing several layers, overalls, and snow boots.  Spinach, 3 varieties of kale, rainbow chard and more are filling our tunnels currently.  We will schedule several winter markets throughout the cold season offering these tasty greens and more. Stay tuned for our first Winter Market in a few weeks.  Find our winter produce on the menus/shelves of the following establishments:

*Healthy Habits Natural Market, Orwigsburg

*Woo de La Kitchen, Hershey

*Troegs Brewing Company, Hershey

Fall CSA

Our fall 2017 season is just about filled to capacity so if you are interested, please check out the details on our website under the CSA/Ordering tab and get in touch right away as we have a few more shares remaining.  Things you'll see in your 6 week share are: brussels sprouts, red/green cabbages, kale, swiss chard, broccoli, carrots, winter squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, beets, spinach, onions, head lettuce, and more.  Pick up locations are Healthy Habits Natural Market on Fridays after 10 a.m. and Woo de La Kitchen in Hershey on Wednesdays after 10 a.m.  Local folks will pick up here at the farm on Saturdays from 9-11 a.m.  The first week of the Fall CSA will be the week of November 6th.

Gratefully Growing!
