Reality Check and 2019 CSA!

Posted 11/18/2018 7:30am by Michael Scheidel.

Hey Good Folks,

Reality Check

Reality checks are good, more often for some people and less for others.  We just took a loooong drive to visit some family in Florida for a fantastic week of sunshine, surfing, swimming, boating, beach and fish tacos...and fish tacos...and fish tacos (we eat seafood only at the coast!).  This was our first full family vacation in 3 years, after an exhausting 2018 growing season. So, needless to say, we were all pent up and ready to get off the farm for a while.

We saved our coins all summer in a "Florida Jar" and the kids half-wished their brother and the cross country team didn't make the State meet in Hershey so we could leave earlier.  Well, they did make states and we left in the middle of that very night to head south.  After a stressful first half of the drive (deer were in full rut and were everywhere!) we made it to our destination in 16 hours.

It was great to walk the beach and listen to myself ask, "How can we do this?  How can we have both our farm life AND our salt life?".  After a rainy drive back north to a frozen and then snowy farm, the answer became clear; for now, THIS is how.  Work your butts off, do what you know how to do, and then get away occasionally to ask those important questions, to have a reality paradise if possible!
