Stormy Monday, Woodlot Pork, Farmer's Table Dinner and more farm news!

Posted 7/22/2019 11:48am by Michael Scheidel.

Hey Folks,

Stormy Monday!

Not sure how many adverbs and adjectives I've used over the years to describe the motion or effects of storms on our crops but last night we got...(fill in here) a...(fill in here)...thunderstorm that started with a few minutes of large hail (that's what the holes in the leaves are from in pics below!) followed by about 2" of rain and violent winds. It came from all directions as every open window in the house got soaked with puddles of rain. We lost power for 8 hours but are back online now. Not a deal breaker but definitely pushing things back a bit! Large holes in leaves, damaged fruit, blown over sweet corn and other plants. And one of our cows and 5 hogs got out! NOT complaining! Could be worse!

Woodlot Pork

We currently have several woodlot/pasture raised hogs looking for buyers.  Our kids are finally at an age where they can buy their own livestock, raise them, and find buyers and sell them personally.  We are hoping this instills, aside from a bank account, some business savvy and communication skills they might otherwise lack.  If you are interested in some seriously delicious pork that is thoughtfully raised,  please get in touch with us for details.  We sell whole and half hogs that go to a local butcher where the buyer custom orders how he would like the hog processed.  If you are a first timer, we can walk you through the process.  Don't be intimidated, it's easy!

Farmer's Table Dinner Tickets On Sale!

We are in the planning stages of our annual fundraising dinner, The Farmer's Table 2019!  This is a great event to support your farmer AND the homeless in our area.  We partner with some seriously talented chefs who create a several course dinner made almost entirely with food grown on our farm!  All proceeds from the silent auction during the dinner go to Servants To All, a shelter for the homeless and displaced that Emily and I have been board members from the beginning.  Tickets can be bought online using paypal on our website or by emailing us the number of tickets you would like and sending a check to Little Peace Farm. To order online, just hover over the CSA/Ordering tab on our website and click on the tab titled "Farmer's Table Dinner 2019".

We all sure endured some serious heat the past few days and I'm sure are all looking forward to this recent cooldown!

Gratefully Growing!
