Pork, Pastured Chicken, Farmer's Table Dinner, and more From the Fields!

Posted 8/5/2019 6:10pm by Michael Scheidel.

Hey Folks,

The Schuylkill County Fair is over and we are so proud of our kids and all those 4H kids in our community who work so hard raising their livestock.  Jude, our 12 year old son, won grand champion market goat too!

We have several hogs being raised in the woods and pasture and are looking for buyers to fill their freezers for the winter with excellent quality/thoughtfully raised/organically fed pork.  They will be ready in late September or early October.  Please respond to this message for details if you are interested.

We are taking deposits for our fall batch of pastured chicken.  'These birds are raised on organic/transitional organic feed from Panorama Organics mill in Oley as well as all the bugs and grass they can handle!  After 2-3 weeks in the brooder, we move them to pasture where they are moved on fresh grass every day.  Deposits are $5/bird ordered.  Below is the price breakdown.  Please respond to this message to reserve your chicken and like the pork, this is first come first served so order soon!

Chef Jordan came out today and hammered out the menu for our annual fundraiser, The Farmer's Table Dinner.  Wow is this man creative!  He and chefs Matt and Kate from Troegs Brewing Co. collaborate to create an amazing menu using all ingredients from our farm including lamb, pork and chicken, fruit, veggies (of course) and more.  Vegetarian options are available as well.  Come for a seat at the table at 6 p.m. on August 24th for a very rare and special meal that benefits the farm Servants to All and your bellies!  Seats can be purchased online on our website under the Ordering/CSA tab or by cash/check.  Get in touch so reserve your seats today.  Seating limited!

We have hit the summer peak of tomatoes!  Our 30-ish varieties of tomatoes are setting a great amount of fruit.  Look for the rainbow cherry mix at our markets here at the farm or in your CSA shares.  Heirloom tomatoes come in all kinds of shapes and sizes and are delicious in a salad on their own!  The hail storm we had two weeks ago completely destroyed a planting of about 2000 head of lettuce so we will be without greens for another couple of weeks until our direct seeded salad greens mature.  Our pepper crop took a beating in the storm as well and we've lost at least half of the crop.  However, what survived looks great.  Lunchbox peppers are right around the corner!

Gratefully Growing!
